Fusion career opportunities

UKAEA is a major employer of fusion scientists and engineers at Culham in Oxfordshire, with permanent staff, secondees, research associates, undergraduate/postgraduate students and contractors.

Career opportunities arise on a regular basis. We are particularly interested in recruiting PhD students and postdoctoral temporary research associates with university links.

Culham fusion research fellowships

Each year we intend to appoint outstanding physicists or engineers who have recently completed doctorates to two-year research fellowships in any field of fusion research conducted at Culham. There will usually be at least two such appointments made each year, following a closing date for applications of 30th June annually.

The fellowships are for research based mainly at Culham, and there will be no formal teaching, managerial or financial responsibilities. Candidates will be expected to be highly motivated and show initiative. There will be opportunities and funds for additional training and development and conference attendance, and candidates will be able to join training and development programmes at Culham. Fellows will be encouraged to spend some of the period working at one of our overseas collaborators.
